GC Club Champions Day

Played at Hunstanton this year the tournament attracted a total of 14 entries, 6 in the handicap section and 8 in the level play section.

Handicap Section

Because this section comprised 6 entries with handicaps ranging between 5 and 7 it was run as an all play all block. As to be expected, play was very competitive with many games going to the 13th hoop, resulting in the following final position. As Judith had beaten Pat, Judith was declared the winner overall using the Who-beat-Whom formula.

Level Play Section

Split into two groups of four, the first four games were played using the cross-block formula, which resulted in the following position:

In the next round block A winner Martin French played David Frost winning a place in the final with a 7-5 result; whilst in block B the undisputed leader David Ball played Chris Sheen who had qualified over Nick Archer by having the better results in the earlier round. Chris earned his place in the final by beating David 7-6.

The final proved to be a very close game with Martin setting the pace by taking a very early lead. However, Chris dug in with some very good clearance play and eventually overhauled Martin to run out the winner by 7-5.
