Club Champions Tournament
by year:
Manager: Terrey Sparks
Level Play: Played as a round robin. As expected the standard of play proved to very high and the result remained in doubt right to the very last game, when David Frost (Enfield) successfully completed his day winning all his games to run out the overall winner.
1st | David Frost | Enfield | 5 Wins |
2nd | John Noble | Letchworth | 3 " |
3rd | Chris Sheen | Colchester | 3 " |
4th | Tony Butcher | Southchurch | 2 " |
5th | Steve Dennis | Watford | 2 " |
6th | David Thirtle-Watts | Hunstanton | 0 " |
Handicap: Split into two groups of four, the first four games were played using the cross block formula [each player in one block plays all the players in the other block], which resulted in the following position:
Block A | Block B | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Noel Gill | Hunstanton | 3 Wins | Paul Homer | Ipswich | 2 Wins |
Tracy Martin | Letchworth | 3 " | David Barnicoat | Enfield | 2 " |
Jean Ball | Leighton Linslade | 2 " | Maureen Croft | Watford | 2 " |
Marion Manning | Colchester | 2 " | Alan Cornelius | Southchurch | 0 " |
In the next round Block A winner Noel Gill (Hunstanton) played Tracy Martin (Letchworth), in which Tracy ran out the winner 6/4 to earn a place in the final. Whilst in the other semi-final Paul Homer (Ipswich) managed to win 7/5 against David Barnicoat (Enfield). The final proved to be a cat-and-mouse game in which Paul, despite having 4 bisques against him to contend with, always seemed to have the upper hand in which he continually managed to jaws his ball on several occasions from long distances, to which Tracy had no answer. In the end Paul ran out the winner 6/4 on time.
