Held on the Colchester lawns which were in excellent condition and played well, the EACF GC Club Champions Day attracted 16 entries who were split into two groups: Level Play and Handicap. This was the tenth year that this event has been staged and the standard of play continues improve year on year. In fact of the 28 games played overall, 11 went to the 13th hoop - just short of 40%.
The format was the same for each group of eight: split into blocks of four played cross-block to determine who would proceed to the semi-finals and final.

*John Skuse beat Ross Bagni 2/1 in a three hoop play-off to determine who met Nick Archer in the semi-final.
In the following semi-finals Nick Archer beat John Skuse 7-3, and Rich Waterman beat Colin Taylor 7-5 to meet Nick for the second time in the final. The final proved a taut game with both players playing to a high standard, and the crowd were entertained by some very good play. However, Nick kept up his very good form and eventually ran out a worthy winner 7-3 to retain the trophy he won the previous year.

*Roger Platt beat Mick Fryer 2/0 in a three hoop play-off to determine who met Terry Collis in the semi-final.
In the following semi-finals Paul Goodall beat Chris van Essen 7 - 6 and Terry Collis beat Roger Platt 7-6, so that Paul and Terry would meet in the final. Terry, who seemed to grow in stature all throughout the day, kept up the pressure and ran out the overall winner 7-1.
